Trip Overview
Arrival in Nairobi
Fly from London to Nairobi. Arrive in the evening and transfer to the Hotel. Settle in, meet your fellow team members, and prepare for the journey ahead.
Atlas Projects in Nairobi & Journey to Tsavo
After breakfast, you’ll visit Atlas Foundation projects in Nairobi to see how sport and education are changing lives. The highlight is the Atlas DigiBus – a mobile digital classroom that takes technology and digital-skills training directly to children who would otherwise miss out. You’ll meet members of the local team and hear how access to digital learning is opening new opportunities for young people in Nairobi’s communities. It’s a clear example of Atlas’s mission in action: practical, community-driven support that gives children the tools to build better futures through sport and education.
After the visit, you’ll travel south by 4×4 toward Tsavo, crossing open country and passing through small roadside towns along the way. Arrive at your lodge by early evening, check in, and team dinner before turning in for an early start the next day.
Trek Mount Kasigau & Onward to the Coast
An early start for the Mount Kasigau trek, a rewarding challenge that takes around six to seven hours in total. Rising to about 1,640 metres, the mountain stands alone between Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks, offering far-reaching views in every direction.
The trek begins on open savannah scrub before climbing gradually into more rocky terrain. Higher up, the slopes are covered in cool montane forest — a welcome change of shade and temperature as the altitude increases. The route is varied and engaging throughout. Along the way, it’s common to see birds, butterflies, and the occasional monkey moving through the trees. The summit gives a panoramic view across the Tsavo plains and, on clear days, all the way to the Indian Ocean and towards the snowy peak of Kilimanjaro.
After the descent, the team continues by 4×4 toward the coast, reaching Shanzu in the late afternoon. The day ends at a beach hotel, with time to relax, recover, and enjoy dinner together to celebrate the climb and the journey across Kenya so far.
Atlas Projects in Mombassa & Departure
In the morning, visit Atlas Foundation projects in and around Shanzu. These initiatives use sport to open up education and opportunity for children growing up in poverty. Weekly sports sessions are combined with mentoring, nutrition, and learning support, helping young people stay in school and build confidence. You’ll meet some of the local coaches, participants and their families to see how these community-led programmes are changing lives at a grassroots level. It’s a fitting conclusion to your time in Kenya, and a chance to connect your fundraising to real, long-term impact.
In the afternoon, transfer to Mombasa for your evening flight home.
Arrival in London
Arrive back in London with lasting memories of Kenya’s landscapes, people, and the projects your support has helped make possible.
Organisation and Leadership
This expedition is highly supported by a team of mountain specialists. Monix Adventures has been organising and leading specialised expeditions for more than 8 years, and many of their local guides have hundreds of ascents to their name.
