James is currently a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police. He began his career as a Firearms Officer for the Ministry of Defence Police for two years before transferring over to the Met. In James’ spare time, he is an Adult Instructor with Sussex Army Cadet Force. Through this organisation, James has been part of fundraising for numerous charities through various events.
Sport has always been very close to James’ heart. He is a keen sportsman in rugby, football and cricket playing at a high level at school, in domestic leagues and at University. James was introduced to rugby through his father Mark at a very young age by going to his first Harlequins match at 5 years old. Sport is very important to the Phillips family and through playing and watching, James fully understands the benefits and sportsmanship that is created between players and in the wider community.
Mark, James’ father, was a main supporter of the Atlas Foundation from its foundation until his passing on January 1st, 2020 after his 8 year battle with cancer. Through the creation of the Mark Phillips Memorial Fund, James, along with his family, are determined that Mark’s legacy and support of the work Atlas does across the world continues through the game of rugby. They look to support Atlas projects in both Kenya and Argentina as the family have connections to these areas.
Atlas are proud to have Mark’s children, James and Alicia on board as Honorary Development Officers while they manage the Mark Phillips Memorial Fund.
