Sok Devid’s Story

At 12 years old, Sok Devid lives in a single parent household in Cambodia. The poverty faced in Cambodia limits children’s access to education, with families from disadvantaged backgrounds unable to afford the safety, self-esteem and social integration that schools provide. According to UNICEF, approximately 48% of Cambodia’s population aged 0-17 is categorised as multidimensionally poor. This can lead to children, like Sok Devid, experiencing a challenging childhood of environmental insecurity, isolation and restricted opportunities to flourish.

Kampuchea Balopp provides weekly sports sessions to over 900 underprivileged children. Focused on building foundations of mutual respect and consideration, this programme cultivates a positive learning environment that extends beyond the benefits of sport. Enrolled for over three years, from Monday to Saturday, Sok Devid studies every morning and afternoon and is provided with nutritious, daily meals. As he plays in rugby tournaments alongside other children, he learns core values of respect and teamwork.

Sok Devid now excites at the opportunity to compete alongside other children and experience the meaningful friendships that every child deserves.

“KB has also provided many children in the KB sports programme the chance to participate in a major tournaments abroad! I would like to travel overseas and play rugby with other children!”

– Sok Devid

This programme provides an opportunity for children to escape the difficulties of daily life. Each day Kampuchea Balopp hosts is a day that a child can be inspired with confidence, ambition and a sense of community. So far, Kampuchea Balopp has supported over 162,000 days of schooling and, with your help, we can achieve many more.
