Queen Chipeta grew up in extreme poverty in Malawi, where children face unimaginable hardships every day. In Malawi many children have no choice but to drop out of school early to help their families, causing a vicious cycle of generational poverty to persist. A strong patriarchal culture means gender inequality and violence are sadly far too common, and many girls are pressured into leaving school early and marrying young. These challenges left Queen shy, lacking in confidence, and scared for her future.
Bhubesi Pride Foundation works with children in rural Lilongwe, Malawi, to show them that they can have a brighter future. Children are taught key life skills that equip them with the confidence and abilities to have a successful career. Queen joined the program when she was just a shy, nervous child and progressed through the program to become a confident young woman. BPF helped Queen overcome her anxieties and gave her the skills necessary to uplift herself and her community out of the hardships and poverty she currently lives with.

Queen is now outgoing and excited about her future. She wants to give back to BPF and help more kids like her, so is currently the coach of three teams at BPF. Queen believes ‘BPF has the power to change someone’s life, to help someone fulfil their dreams, to help someone transform into a better human’. Going through the program at BPF completely changed Queen’s life, so she plans on becoming a teacher to help transform and uplift more children’s lives. Queen is just one of many success stories out of BPF, and we are incredibly proud to support Queen and BPF to change more children’s lives.
