Creating Safe & Enriching Holidays for Children in Kenya – A Summer Roundup from LSO

From 4th to 23rd August, Little Sports Organisation (LSO) ran its PATHWAYS Holiday Programme, giving children a safe, fun, and enriching space during the school break.  The programme blended sports, life skills, and learning to give children from urban villages opportunities they might not otherwise experience – all while keeping them protected from harmful social influences.

About Little Sports Organisation

Little Sports Organisation Kenya (LSO) uses school sports to connect with children trapped in extreme poverty & give them access to education and bigger horizons in Life. Talented & hard-working kids are lifted into their Pathways Development Programme. They receive elite coaching, healthy meals, clean water, school support & a chance to earn scholarships to schools their parents cannot afford. LSO empowers communities by providing youth coaching, weekend meals, and jobs for local mums as helpers and cooks. They also offer interest-free loans to help mums launch businesses – building a sustainable future from the ground up.

The Impact: Transforming School Holidays into Opportunities

The PATHWAYS Holiday Programme made a powerful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and their families. Over three weeks, children who might otherwise have been left unsupervised or exposed to risky environments were instead kept safe, active, and learning. They engaged in sports, personal development, and essential life skills training that broadened their horizons beyond the classroom.

Parents, especially those working full-time or raising children alone, had peace of mind knowing their children were in a nurturing and structured environment. Beyond simply keeping kids busy, the programme helped to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience – equipping young participants with tools they can carry into school and life. By combining play, learning, and mentorship, LSO ensured that these school holidays became a stepping stone toward a brighter future.

Voices From the Community

“I am so grateful for the work LSO did to keep our kids engaged during the holidays. I am a mother of three, all in the PATHWAYS program, and as a single parent who works all day, it can be difficult to keep track of them when schools are closed. The holiday program lifted that burden for me. Every evening my children came home excited, sharing the amazing things they had done during the day. It made me happy knowing they were not only safe but also learning and growing.”

“It was really fun and kept me from getting bored at home. I looked forward to it every day, knowing we would learn something different and exciting. I can’t wait for the next holiday program!”
