Big Give – One Donation, Twice the Impact
The Big Give Christmas Challenge is running from ‘Giving Tuesday’, 2 December, until 9 December. All donations, up to our target of £7,500, will be matched by our Big Give champion, the Reed Foundation, meaning your donation will have twice the impact! If you wish to support The Atlas Foundation in providing children with a chance to thrive, then there is no better time than now!
Supporting Our Partner Bhubesi Pride Foundation
All the funds raised from our Big Give Christmas Challenge will go directly to our local partner Bhubesi Pride Foundation’s ‘Club 4 Development’ initiative.
Bhubesi Pride Foundation (BPF) works with disadvantaged children in rural Lilongwe, Malawi, to give children a chance to overcome the severe challenges they face and uplift themselves and their community. At their sports and community centre, BPF promotes their PRIDE values of Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Enjoyment to the children, empowering them to work hard to rise to the economic, social, and health challenges that are sadly a part of daily life for children in Malawi.
Giving Children in Malawi a Chance to Thrive
Malawi faces severe youth poverty and inequality, with 19.65 million people, 40% of the population, living on less than one dollar a day and more than 70% of children experiencing multi-dimensional poverty.
The social inequality is rife; although 91% of children access primary education, fewer than half complete it. Nearly half of all girls marry before age 18, about 30% give birth before 19, and many face daily gender inequality and violence, including reports from 34% of women of physical violence and 14% of sexual violence.
Young people also lack youth-friendly, inclusive education and sports opportunities, as well as safe spaces, mentorship and life skills needed to break cycles of poverty and dependence.
Bhubesi Pride Foundation (BPF) addresses these challenges by empowering youth in Malawi through inclusive sport at its Mtema Community Centre and through school partnerships. Its Clubs for Development (C4D) programme provides netball and non-contact rugby to 694 young people, including 365 girls and 83 youth with disabilities, and uses weekly sessions, sexual and reproductive health rights education and coach training to promote physical wellbeing while building skills, confidence and resilience.
