Help Us Fix Our School Desks in Eswatini with SKRUM

Fixing Desks, Rebuilding Futures

As many go Back To School, donate a seat to learn.   The classroom should be a sanctuary; a space for curiosity, safety, and hope. But in too many schools across Eswatini, even the most basic tool for learning is missing: a desk. Children are expected to study from the floor. They balance exercise books on their knees, sharing broken furniture or sitting on hard concrete – simply because there aren’t enough desks to go around. It’s an invisible barrier to education, and one we can fix.

Join SKRUM and The Atlas Foundation in a simple but powerful mission:

Rebuild the Desks. Rebuild Futures.

Why Desks?

Because something so small can change everything.
With just £15, you can refurbish a desk and give a child dignity, focus, and the ability to learn.

  • £15 could refurbish one desk

  • £60 could support a full row of desks

  • £450 could restore an entire classroom

“Having a broken desk, or no desk, makes learning and focusing on what is being taught so much more harder. As desk is one of the most important parts of a school and learning”

Mr Vilane

Head Teacher, Makhungutja Primary School

“Having a desk means I have my own space to study, do my schoolwork and it helps me stay focused. My desk is my space where I can learn to write, draw and do other school projects. With no desk, learning is hard. With a desk, I don’t have to lean over to write or read. It is hard to write leaning on my knees”

The Reality in Eswatini

In many rural schools, SKRUM has found rusting desk frames abandoned behind buildings. Their solution is beautifully simple:

  1. Collect broken desks from local schools
  2. Clean and restore them with new wooden tops and fresh paint
  3. Return them to classrooms where they’re desperately needed

You can be part of this.

Your donation doesn’t just rebuild desks.
It restores dignity, opens opportunities, and removes barriers to learning.

When a child has a place to sit, a place to write, and a place to belong…
everything changes.

“What seems simple to us – a desk to sit at – is a lifeline here. These children face challenges we can barely imagine. School should be a place of hope, not hardship. If we can give them something as basic as a desk, we’re giving them dignity, focus, and a fairer start. It could be a small change with a massive impact.”

Who is SKRUM?

Eswatini has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world. Many children grow up orphaned, vulnerable, and forced into adult responsibilities far too early. SKRUM is a grassroots charity transforming these lives in Eswatini. Originally using rugby to engage children in HIV/AIDS education, gender equality, and life skills, the organisation has become a trusted voice and advocate in schools across the country.

Their work now goes beyond the pitch – tackling menstrual stigma, improving hygiene education, and now, addressing the lack of basic classroom infrastructure like desks.

This isn’t about luxury. This is about accessibility – real, tangible access to education.

This is your moment to make a lasting difference

Don’t let another child sit on the floor.
Don’t let another future go unsupported.

This Back To School period, be the reason a child can sit, learn, and thrive.
