A Masiphumelele High School student was apart of the win for the Western Province U15 Girls Rugby team at the national tournament in East London
A Masiphumelele High School girl, Enkosi, was selected for the Western Province U15 Girls Rugby Team after being scouted through The Atlas Foundation’s after-school rugby programme. Not only was she scouted, she was made vice-captain, a true identifier of her skills and talent.
It has been a tough journey because I come from a disadvantaged community and it’s hard to get those opportunities out there. There are always negative things said about our community.
Coming from a disadvantaged community, opportunities were few and far between. Being the only girl in her primary school playing rugby, she often faced criticism, but that did not stop her spirit.
After joining Atlas alongside her brother, her success highlights the impact of Atlas in providing a key pathway to greatness. Not only has Enkosi achieved something incredible, but 9 players from Masiphumelele and Atlas’s programme have recently been selected for the Southern Region U20 team. The importance of the programme speaks for itself.
Our role is to provide opportunities, guidance and support so that young people can realise their potential.
Enkosi’s achievement demonstrates what is possible when dedication, talent and opportunity come together.
