Veronica’s Story with Virreyes Rugby Club

Three generations: when Veronica first noticed a sign at the local school in 2004, she had no idea how much it would shape her family’s life. The invitation to come and play rugby was just the start.

She suggested that her eldest son, Nahuel, give it a try. More than two decades later, the familys connection to Virreyes is stronger than ever.

Her younger son, Jesus, joined the club at 9 years old. Now, at 25, he pulls on the jersey for the senior team, a commitment spanning more of his life

Seeing Jesus on the field today fills me with emotion

The Next Generation

Now, Veronica’s grandson, Julen, inspired by his uncle, played in the M7 category. He proudly calls Virreyes ‘our club’

For Julen, Virreyes is a source of joy, and a place that he can call his own.

Veronica says that rugby has guided them through the years, and that sport is not a reward to be earned or withdrawn but a space where children can grow, belong and feel secure.

Virreyes was one of those lights that you come across in life. There, I was able to introduce my sons to a sport and to a place where they could feel that they belonged. I am eternally grateful for everything the Club has given, and continues to give, to our family.

The Power Of The Club

In the ‘Villas’ of Buenos Aires, life is a daily battle against poverty, hunger, and violence. For children growing up here, gang activity, limited education, and unemployment create a cycle of despair that can feel impossible to break.

For the children of the Villas, Virreyes is a refuge, a support system, and a source of hope. Through rugby, meals, healthcare, education, and housing, Virreyes Rugby Club is building a brighter future for those who need it most.
