During his personal holiday, Peter Scott, General Manager of The Atlas Foundation, took the opportunity to visit the Atlas DigiBus & Media Centre at Ocean View Secondary School in South Africa—an experience he described as “incredible.”
“Seeing the Atlas DigiBus in person was incredible—it was such an honour to see it in action. Every child deserves the chance to learn, and the DigiBus provides access to education that opens doors to a brighter future, while raising their horizons to endless possibilities.”
Capturing the Atlas DigiBus in Action
During his visit, Peter was able to capture the Atlas DigiBus in action, bringing learning to life for children in Langa. The images capture moments of students fully engaged—exploring digital literacy, solving maths problems, and developing essential skills that will empower them for the future.
Learn More About the Atlas DigiBus
What is the Atlas DigiBus?
The Atlas DigiBus is transforming education for over 1,300 students in Langa, Cape Town, by providing essential lessons in maths, English, STEM, and digital literacy skills. Equipped with 37 laptops, the DigiBus helps children overcome challenges in an under-resourced education system, making learning engaging and interactive.
Why is the DigiBus Essential?
In South Africa, many schools face overcrowded classrooms and a lack of resources, leaving children without the education they deserve. The transition from learning in their mother tongue to English after Grade 4 often causes children to fall behind and contributes to a 45% dropout rate. The Atlas DigiBus bridges this gap by supporting children during this critical transition, improving their understanding of key subjects and reducing dropout rates.
Empowering Children for a Brighter Future
The DigiBus not only boosts academic performance but also enhances communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, empowering children to pursue careers of their choice and break the cycle of poverty. Teachers and principals have praised the DigiBus for its transformative impact, with many highlighting how it has boosted student confidence and engagement.
