Growing up in the “Villas” of Buenos Aires, Lionel’s early life was shaped by instability, trauma, and limited opportunity. Surrounded by poverty and the constant threat of violence, the future often felt uncertain. But everything began to change when he found Virreyes Rugby Club – one of our local partners, offering far more than sport.

Through rugby, Lionel learnt teamwork, respect, and resilience; tools helping him navigate a life not defined by his childhood. What was initially a precautionary introduction has turned into so much more, with a profound impact on his life.
